AI is supposed to save time, but you’re just becoming a glorified robot babysitter

Original version ·

The corporate dream of AI-driven efficiency is officially rotting. According to a new report from the Work AI Institute and Glean, employees are burning out as they trade real work for the mind-numbing labor of fixing hallucinations.

Office workers are now shackled to "botsitting", a tedious new job requirement where humans spend an average of 6.4 hours per week playing digital nanny to AI tools. Researchers from Stanford, Berkeley, and the University of Notre Dame found that while these tools theoretically claw back 11 hours of time, more than half of that gain is immediately vaporized by the need to feed the models context, debug their confident nonsense, and clean up their structural failures.

The rot goes deeper with "botshitting"—a term for the rampant practice where 69% of users pass off AI-generated work they haven't verified or even fully understood. Corporations are accelerating this decline by aggressively automating the creative, human-centric tasks that employees actually enjoyed, effectively demoting staff to the role of glorified error-log cleaners.

Rebecca Hinds, the lead of the Work AI Institute, notes that this specific cycle of frustration—burnout followed by resentment—is driving a 73% increase in active job searching among the most burdened workers. The shiny promise of AI is currently being paid for in the currency of human sanity, proving that if you give a machine a job, you will inevitably spend your day explaining to the machine why it failed at that job.

i spent more time editing chatgpt's hallucinations than just writing the report myself. tech is a scam.

lol, people love complaining. better than doing the actual grunt work by hand, right?
+1 jokeA stunningly mediocre observation that adds exactly as much value as the AI it critiques
