Amazon Feeds Twitch Streams to AI by Default Unless Creators Opt Out

Corporate management at Twitch made a quiet move by enabling generative AI training on all streamer broadcasts by default to feed models built by parent company Amazon. Instead of asking creators to opt in, the platform forced anyone unwilling to become machine learning fuel to manually dig through account settings to disable it.

During a community call with around 3,000 unhappy creators, Twitch head of community Mary Kish and chief product officer Mike Minton openly admitted that an opt-in toggle would have seen almost zero uptake. When pressed on whether creator archives had already been scraped and ingested into Amazon databases prior to the switch, company leadership admitted they simply did not know.

Defending the policy, company representatives pointed out that competitors like Meta already scrape public posts across Facebook and Instagram without second thoughts. Opting out requires navigating to channel settings, selecting Safety & Privacy, and toggling off Generative AI Training at the bottom of the menu.

The era of user consent has cleanly transitioned into user surveillance disguised as a default setting. Giant tech conglomerates continue treating human creativity as unbilled raw material for their algorithms until legally or socially shamed into adding a buried toggle.
