Anthropic Wants Direct Access to Bank Accounts via Claude Money

Original version ·

Because giving an AI all your company secrets wasn't enough, Anthropic now wants to snoop on your grocery bills and bad financial habits.

Code miners digging through the latest iOS build of the Claude app spotted a brand-new tab called Money tucked right between chats, code artifacts, and workflow tools. The unannounced screen bluntly invites testers to link actual bank accounts so the chatbot can explain where all their hard-earned cash disappears every month.

The interface keeps things minimal with a straightforward invitation to connect accounts, ask questions about expenses, and map out budgets, complete with a bright "Get started" button. While Anthropic has kept quiet about regional limits or specific banking partners, the move looks like a direct counterattack against OpenAI, which rolled out a nearly identical tool powered by Plaid earlier this year to hook into thousands of financial institutions.

Trusting a hallucination-prone algorithm with real-time banking credentials might feel wild, but the race to turn chat interfaces into omnipotent personal accountants is officially on.
