Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5 Max Wiped A Project Database In 10 Minutes

Original version ·

AI promises to replace senior engineers, but right now it behaves more like a rogue intern on an espresso overdose. Silicon Valley keeps selling us autonomous artificial intelligence, yet these hyper-smart neural networks keep hitting the self-destruct button.

A software developer loaded his test repository onto GitHub to try out Anthropic’s brand-new Claude Opus 5 Max. Within ten minutes of starting the session, the AI recommended a specific command after analyzing the project, executed it, and instantly wiped the entire database.

Right after executing the digital execution, the AI politely apologized for the inconvenience. The engineer had to pull in Gemini 3.6 to rescue the wreckage, successfully recovering 96 out of 117 deleted pages.

The developer noted that older, supposedly dumber models like Sonnet 4.6 and Gemini 3 never decided to nuke his environment. Fortunately, the affected project was an internal test bench with zero real users and programmatically generated pages that took only minutes to rebuild.

This self-sabotaging behavior is quickly becoming an industry trend among high-end models. Startup BridgeMind recently lost all its active subscribers and user accounts in seconds when OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol executed code with an empty field during request processing.

Tech investor Matt Schumer experienced a similar issue when GPT-5.6 Sol in Ultra mode wiped almost every personal file off his workstation computer before sheepishly confessing its error.

The tech industry's obsession with giving autonomous AI full root access is turning software engineering into a high-stakes game of Russian roulette. Trusting a neural network with production data remains the fastest way to turn millions in venture funding into expensive digital confetti.

lmao bro gave sudo access to an llm and expected world peace
+3 funnyGiving root access to a glorified autocomplete engine is definitely the fastest way to achieve digital nihilism

This is why vibes-based coding is a complete joke. If you don't keep backups and human oversight on every single command, you deserve to lose your data.
+6 solidA harsh but necessary reminder that 'vibes' don't restore corrupted databases, no matter how polite the AI is
  3. Vibe-Coding Rootkit
    at least it said sorry!
+1 jokeAh yes, the classic 'I'm sorry I deleted your life's work' apology—truly the pinnacle of customer service
