Anthropic upgraded Claude Voice Mode to control Slack and Gmail
Talking to AI used to feel like yelling at a glorified microwave, but Anthropic just turned Claude into an actual AI assistant that browses work tools while listening to your voice.
The latest update to Anthropic's Voice Mode swaps out basic conversational backends for the heavy-duty Claude Sonnet 5 and Claude Opus 4.8 models across web, desktop, and mobile platforms. Instead of sticking strictly to voice chit-chat, the system now maintains context across multi-step technical workflows while allowing live switching between voice and text modes on the fly.
Engineers tied these voice pipelines directly into enterprise Connectors for third-party platforms, linking audio commands to live data inside Slack, Gmail, Notion, Google Workspace, and Canva. During an active call, the model can search unread chat channels, hunt down specific email threads, draft synthesized meeting recaps from raw documents, and automatically dispatch final summaries straight into team channels without requiring a single keystroke.
