White House to Anthropic: Kill All Fable 5 Jailbreaks or It Stays Dead
The Trump administration is essentially asking Anthropic to perform a miracle: stop every single hacker from jailbreaking Fable 5. It’s the digital equivalent of demanding an ocean stay dry because someone spilled a bucket.
The White House has made it clear: if Anthropic wants to revive its Fable 5 model, it needs to plug every potential hole where users might bypass its safety guardrails. The model, along with its sibling Mythos 5, has been stuck in digital purgatory since mid-June after the government demanded a total blackout of access.
Anthropic insists these security concerns are a bit hysterical and that the actual damage from a jailbreak is minimal. They’ve been busy playing ping-pong with the Department of Commerce and the Department of Homeland Security, trying to explain that their current safety nets are, in fact, sufficient for the task.
The National Security Agency (NSA) isn’t buying it. They’ve identified multiple paths to strip away the safeguards designed to keep Fable 5 users from tapping into the restricted chemistry and biology capabilities of Mythos 5. For the feds, this is a Anthropic problem, mostly because the NSA frankly doesn't have the manpower to play whack-a-mole with every single AI model that hits the market.
The administration wants Anthropic to be a proactive babysitter, constantly stress-testing not just Fable 5, but their entire portfolio for vulnerabilities. Yet, nobody seems to have a concrete answer on how to mathematically guarantee that a neural network won't be talked into misbehaving by a persistent human. Cybersecurity experts are already calling this a fool's errand, noting that as long as there is an AI, there will be someone with enough time and spite to jailbreak it.
The belief that a multi-billion dollar tech firm can force a language model to be eternally obedient is a masterclass in bureaucratic delusion. Expecting a math equation to ignore human prompt-engineering is like expecting a teenager to stay off their phone at dinner. As long as the cat-and-mouse game remains the only strategy, the only thing truly being secured is the government’s sense of control over an uncontrollable runaway train.
