Apple quietly swallowed Sonera, a startup obsessed with non-invasive brain sensors. Forget creepy brain chips; the tech giant wants to track your neurons using magnets to make Apple Watch or Vision Pro read your mind without the drilling.

The Cupertino giant stealthily acquired Sonera back in May, though the company website has since vanished into the digital void. This startup, founded by Nishita Deka female and Dominik Labanowski male in 2018, spent years perfecting high-performance magnetic sensors that bypass the traditional, messy hurdles of electrical brain imaging. The core innovation is the S1 chip, which tracks magnetic signals generated by neural and muscle activity rather than struggling with the weak electrical signals typically muffled by the human skull.

While Synchron previously made headlines by wiring an implant into a Vision Pro, Sonera aims to ditch the surgery entirely. By utilizing these portable magnetic sensors, the company plans to make neuro-imaging not only affordable but wearable. The technology is designed to recognize muscle activity for prosthetic control, but it also has the potential to turn every wrist-worn device into a high-fidelity interface for the human brain.

Apple clearly envisions a future where health monitoring moves beyond counting steps and heart rates. Incorporating this tech into the Apple Watch could allow for the continuous tracking of complex neuromuscular disorders, turning a simple watch into a medical-grade diagnostic tool.
