Apple Flaunts $2,000 iPhone Duo Photos to Hide Its Missing Zoom
Shelling out two grand for a foldable screen only to realize basic optical zoom got axed is peak tech irony. Now Apple is desperately trying to prove its camera prowess with glossy promo shots.
To convince the world that its maiden foldable can actually shoot decent photos, Apple dropped six curated snapshots on Instagram captured entirely on the unreleased iPhone Duo. The marketing assignment was handed to professional photographers Jake Michaels and Jason Nocito.
The foldable hardware packs four optical sensors across its folding chassis. The rear setup houses a 48-megapixel Fusion primary sensor accompanied by a 48-megapixel ultra-wide shooter. Selfies are handled by an external 12-megapixel camera with Center Stage framing and a secondary camera concealed right beneath the foldable inner glass.
Hardware sacrifices left the device without any dedicated telephoto lens. Zoom relies strictly on a 2x sensor crop from the primary lens, a glaring limitation when pitted against the 8x optical zoom reach engineered into the flagship iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro tiers.
The dual-display book design measures a pocket-sized 5.4 inches on the outside before opening up into a 7.6-inch tablet, carrying a starting price tag of $2,000.
Forking out two thousand dollars on a flagship device to receive camera compromises that cheaper models solved years ago outlines a bizarre modern trend. Expensive folding hinges apparently carry far more prestige than functional telephoto glass, relying entirely on hired studio legends to distract from missing hardware.
