AI Catches Bugs in Apple Devices Before Hackers Do
While we use generative AI to write lazy emails, cybersecurity researchers are using it to hunt down critical zero-days. Apple had to rush a massive emergency patch because neural networks are getting way too good at finding backdoors.
Apple rushed an emergency security update to patch dozens of bugs discovered by AI agents, bypassing its usual release schedule due to growing fears of automated cyberattacks.
The tech giant pushed updates for its operating systems, the Safari browser, and the underlying WebKit engine, addressing around 30 vulnerabilities. In a rare move, the company openly credited AI tools developed by OpenAI and Anthropic for sniffing out some of the most dangerous exploits. It seems silicon-based assistants are much better at auditing messy human code than we initially thought.
Specifically, the OpenAI Codex Security system flagged CVE-2026-43707, a nasty memory corruption vulnerability triggered by malicious web content. OpenAI's tools also detected CVE-2026-43716 and CVE-2026-43745, while Anthropic's Claude pointed out CVE-2026-43715. Most of these WebKit flaws involved classic engine issues like memory overflows, sandbox escapes, and kernel-level crashes that could let bad actors execute arbitrary code on a target device.
The sudden hurry to release these fixes comes from Cupertino's anxiety over the democratization of AI hacking tools. Representatives from Apple confirmed to Reuters that they are actively compressing patch release timelines because malicious actors are already using the same LLMs to speed up malware development.
The irony is delicious: the very tech giants warning about existential AI risks are now utterly dependent on neural networks to keep their own web browsers from falling apart. It is a frantic digital arms race where the software is written by tired humans, broken by smart machines, and patched by other machines, leaving the user to pray the silicon gods are in a good mood.
