Apple Brings MCP Server to Safari for AI-Driven Web Debugging

Original version ·

Developers can now connect AI agents directly to Safari through Apple's experimental Model Context Protocol bridge, giving assistants the ability to inspect pages, click, and read console errors.

Apple has introduced a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for its Safari browser, opening a direct pipeline for external AI agents to inspect and manipulate running web applications. The feature is currently available in the experimental Safari Technology Preview build.

According to a WebKit announcement reported by habr, the integration functions through the browser's native driver utility, safaridriver. Rather than requiring developers to copy and paste fragments into a separate chat window, the MCP server lets agents such as Claude or Codex query live browser state directly.

The server grants connected agents broad visibility into the active page, including the DOM tree, network traffic, browser console output, and tab states. It also enables active intervention: models can navigate URLs, run arbitrary JavaScript, capture full-page screenshots, and simulate user input by clicking, hovering, typing, and scrolling.

The primary focus is automating front-end quality assurance. Apple frames the tooling around common developer pain points, proposing that agents handle layout validation, performance analysis, accessibility auditing, and interactive UI verification. How cleanly existing language models will interpret complex, asynchronous web app errors in practice remains an open question.
