Beeline launches ISP-level rerouting to unblock Netflix and Spotify
Russian telco Beeline has added an in-house routing service to its mobile tiers, unblocking platforms like Netflix and Spotify that exited the Russian market voluntarily without running afoul of domestic censors.
Russian telecommunications operator Beeline rolled out a feature on June 9, 2026, granting mobile subscribers built-in routing to access foreign web services that voluntarily ceased operating in Russia, according to domestic media citing company CEO Sergey Anokhin.
Marketed as a "white VPN" bundled into the carrier's bee subscription, the feature targets platforms such as Netflix, Spotify, Ticketmaster, and mobile game Brawl Stars. None of these services are formally blocked by Russian state censor Roskomnadzor; instead, the companies themselves restrict connections coming from Russian IP ranges.
Instead of relying on commercial or self-hosted VPN tools—which Russian authorities routinely blacklist and degrade—subscribers have their traffic relayed through carrier-managed infrastructure. The routing operates strictly on mobile handsets, with Beeline noting that functionality over stationary Wi-Fi routers or USB modems may be curtailed.
The rollout follows discussions between major Russian carriers and regulatory officials regarding selective exemptions for Western services. By acting as the intermediary proxy, the telecom ensures subscribers reach geoblocked commercial platforms while remaining within bounds vetted by state oversight.
