Jeff Bezos Thinks Prometheus Will Replace Your Entire Engineering Team
Jeff Bezos is pouring billions into Prometheus, an AI startup aiming to automate the heavy lifting of physical engineering. Because apparently, we haven't automated enough of human existence yet, now even the rocket scientists aren't safe from the Silicon Valley hype train.
The startup Prometheus, co-founded by Bezos and Vik Bajaj, just secured a cool $12 billion in funding, bringing its valuation to a staggering $41 billion. While the world watches AI write mediocre poetry, Prometheus wants to design actual hardware, ranging from pharmaceuticals to heavy machinery.
The goal is to build an artificial general engineer that can handle the R&D grind. Bezos specifically pointed to his own space firm, Blue Origin, as the prime testing ground for these autonomous design tools. The company currently employs roughly 150 people who are tasked with teaching silicon how to innovate faster than a human with a CAD license.
Interestingly, Bezos has already mentioned a strategy of simply buying out any traditional firms that get disrupted by his new software. It is a bold move to announce you plan to eat the competition before the product even hits the market.
It is truly heartwarming to see the richest people on earth dedicate their massive wealth to ensuring human creativity becomes a legacy feature. Replacing the need for specialized human intuition with a $41 billion black box is surely the peak of modern efficiency, provided one doesn't mind the eventual reality where the software decides that the most cost-effective rocket design is simply not to build one at all.
