ByteDance drops Seedance 2.5: 30-second 4K video generation is finally here
While the rest of the world is still stitching together two-second clips, ByteDance just leveled up Seedance 2.5. It is an impressive leap in generative video, assuming one ignores the massive elephant in the room regarding how it learned to act so human.
ByteDance unveiled Seedance 2.5 during the Volcengine FORCE conference, moving beyond the fragmented stitching common in current video models. The new version generates 30-second clips in a single pass at native 4K resolution, effectively ending the era of disjointed, short-burst animations. The model now supports up to 50 simultaneous references for image, video, and audio, allowing for a much higher degree of consistency.
Technical flexibility has been improved with local editing features, meaning you can swap specific elements in a frame without triggering a total re-render. Additionally, the system now accepts 3D grey-box models, providing actual control over camera movement and scene composition rather than just hoping the AI guesses your intent correctly. Tan Dai confirmed that this is a significant jump from the previous 15-second cap of Seedance 2.0.
To mitigate legal disasters, ByteDance is pivoting to a formal copyright monetization platform. By partnering with figures like director Stephen Chow, the company allows users to generate licensed remixes of his classic comedies within Douyin and Jimeng, with revenue shared between the studio and the creators. Over 100,000 generations using these official templates occurred within just the first day.
It is truly a masterclass in corporate survival: first, train on stolen Hollywood IP to make the product go viral, then build a "legal" walled garden and charge for the privilege. Whether this pacifies the lawyers at Disney, Paramount, and Netflix remains the million-dollar question, but for now, the machines just got a whole lot better at pretending they are directors.
