New Game Cancel Your Subscription Turns Dark UX Patterns Into Actual Nightmare

Original version ·

Every tech giant treats unsubscribe buttons like nuclear launch codes hidden behind toxic guilt trips. Now someone turned that exact corporate gaslighting into a browser horror simulator disguised as vintage software.

Manila-based studio Fundr released a browser game called Cancel Your Subscription where the only goal is to bypass predatory design tricks. The storyline puts players in the shoes of someone paying $10 a month for years for a forgotten service, racking up $380 in waste.

Escaping this digital money pit requires surviving nine consecutive psychological trials wrapped in a Windows XP skin. Typing "cancel" into the help desk politely autocorrects to "upgrade tier", while the real off-switch hides buried deep within nested system settings.

The cancellation journey unleashes classic confirmshaming pop-ups, forcing clicks on tiny grey options that claim "No, I hate saving money." Those who reach the feedback questionnaire cannot submit ratings below 7/10, must recite the exact date they signed up, and have no choice but to opt into marketing spam.

Reaching the end triggers a broken hotline that rings out to silence, immediately handing players over to a desperate retention bot that aggressively counters every objection with up to 90% discounts. When customer support inevitably rejects the cancellation anyway, the game resets the entire maze with scrambled menus.

According to the studio, 47% of all players rage-quit before even discovering the exit survey.

Modern software design has successfully transformed basic consumer consent into an endurance boss fight, leaving corporate balance sheets built entirely on customer exhaustion.
