Claude Opus 5 Built an Open-Source Starfield Clone in 24 Hours
Developer Anshu Chimala set loose an AI model with an autonomous critic sub-agent, letting it program, 3D-model, and polish a browser space exploration game while he slept.
Developer Anshu Chimala loaded a blank repository and tasked Claude Opus 5 with creating a photorealistic space game using Three.js, giving the model strict instructions to avoid plastic-looking procedural assets. To bypass human intervention, Chimala connected an autonomous Blender plugin that enabled the neural network to 3D-model its own hard-surface spacecraft directly on his laptop.
The workflow relied on an adversarial critic sub-agent that continuously compared browser screenshots against AAA titles like Starfield. Under strict prompt rules, the main developer model was forbidden from completing its task until the AI judge confirmed the visual fidelity reached 60 frames per second. While Chimala monitored progress from his smartphone and tweaked room priorities, the system generated all code in JavaScript and Python overnight.
The resulting project, named The Long Silence, features full ship interior navigation, planetary landings, and seamless spaceflight published under the MIT license. This experiment built upon earlier work by investor Matt Shumer, who used similar multi-agent loops to generate Claude of Duty, a 55,000-line browser shooter running on WebGL2 without external graphic files.
Multimillion-dollar game studios are now watching single-prompt loops produce functional 3D worlds overnight while human developers argue over crunch hours. The line between real game engineering and infinite AI asset loops has officially blurred into complete irrelevance.
