Scientists at Penn State finally forced biological DNA to play nice with electronics. By smashing synthetic genes together with crystalline perovskite, they’ve birthed a low-energy memristor that might just kill our reliance on clunky silicon.

Researchers have effectively bridged the gap between biology and hardware by building a memristor out of synthetic DNA and crystalline perovskite. The team swapped out messy, floppy natural DNA for stiff, engineered synthetic sequences that actually behave under a microscope.
