FCC Moves to Ban Rebranded DJI Drones and Cameras
The FCC wants to block nine firms suspected of repackaging DJI hardware under new names, including previously approved devices.
The FCC has proposed a ban on importing and selling equipment from nine companies suspected of selling rebranded and modified hardware from Chinese drone maker DJI.
The target list includes Cogito, Fikaxo, Lyno Dynamics, Skyhigh Tech, Spatial Hover, SZ Knowact, WaveGo, Xtra, and XAG. Regulators argue the hardware presents an unacceptable risk to US national security, citing instances where devices like the Skyrover X1 drone and the Xtra Muse handheld camera closely mirror DJI's DJI Mini 4 Pro and DJI Osmo Pocket 3.
The move represents a notable escalation in regulatory enforcement. While the agency previously added foreign-made drones and components to its covered list with the understanding that rules would apply only to new models, this proposal targets previously approved equipment that turns out to be rebadged DJI gear. According to reports cited by Habr, this would be the agency's first use of retroactive revocation powers approved in late 2025.
DJI called the decision disappointing, arguing that data security concerns remain unproven and that the restrictions amount to market protectionism. The manufacturer previously stated its own US operations would face an automatic ban starting December 23, 2025.
The FCC has opened a 30-day public comment window, asking for specific evidence regarding whether the cited companies are distributing reworked DJI products.
