Robots Outnumber Humans at Figure AI: 740 Machines to 660 Staff
We always joked about robots taking our jobs, but we didn't expect them to start by literally outnumbering their own creators. Figure AI just crossed a wild milestone that feels straight out of a sci-fi thriller.
The startup now has 740 humanoid robots active compared to just 660 human workers. To make things even wilder, only 314 of those humans are actually full-time employees, with the rest being freelancers and contractors. Essentially, the meat-to-metal ratio is already heavily skewed in favor of the machines.
This headcount flip is a massive jump for a company that started 2022 with basically zero functioning hardware. Figure AI founder Brett Adcock shared that the robot population is growing on an exponential curve, while human hiring has completely flattened. Apparently, recruiting squishy humans who need food, breaks, and emotional validation is just too slow for the fast-paced tech world.
These aren't just paperweight status symbols either. Recently, a trio of Figure 03 bots controlled by the Helix 02 AI system completed a massive 24-hour continuous shift sorting packages completely autonomously. By the end of May, this mechanical workforce had logged over 200 hours of continuous operations, moving nearly 250,000 packages without a single union break.
Watching a startup replace its own workforce with its own product before even launching a consumer version is peak tech-industry irony. If the goal was to prove that humans are the ultimate bottleneck in modern tech companies, the mission has been accomplished with terrifying efficiency.
