Good Bear 1.0.1 Ships With an Isolated Password Vault for Russian PKI Sites
The Firefox fork adds an independent encrypted credential store and moves to the Nova interface atop Firefox 157, prioritizing specific root certificate handling.
A new release of the independent browser Good Bear, built on Mozilla Firefox, has arrived with version 1.0.1. The update introduces a separate, permanent encrypted password database dedicated to a special container for sites using Ministry of Digital Development certificate chains, alongside an upgrade to the Firefox 157 codebase.
Under the hood, the browser implements distinct password management for the Russian PKI container. Regular tabs share a standard vault, but the isolated container features its own encrypted store with saving, auto-fill, and management capabilities, complete with a localized interface indicator. Explicit CSV import and export functions are supported, though shared passwords do not auto-migrate into the protected zone, and cross-profile importing is barred.
The update also shifts the browser's user interface to adapt to the Nova layout, updates the Russian spellcheck dictionary to RusSpell, and fixes startup ordering so the special container initializes before session tabs restore. Timing for the original project inception is not specified in the release notes, but the distribution is currently hosted on GitHub.
