Google's Gemini leaks unreleased game details from a private Google Doc
An indie developer reports that Google's AI search revealed unreleased characters and mechanics stored exclusively in a private Google Doc.
An indie developer known as Klub Kofta shared a peculiar incident involving AI search on Google. A player asked the neural network about the game Operation Octo and received unreleased content details, including the exact name of a future character. This information was stored solely in a private Google Doc.
According to the developer, the data had never appeared in game files, social media, or other public sources. The user querying Google had no access to the document and searched in incognito mode. Despite this, the AI search correctly named the new character, Vantage Tripod, and outlined some of its mechanics.
Another developer in the discussion commented that they ran a similar experiment regarding their own game. The language model successfully retrieved facts from a closed document restricted strictly to its owner. Meanwhile, Claude failed to replicate Google's results, leading the commenter to suspect that Google holds access to files hosted on its own platform, causing private data to surface in search results.
In its official documentation, Google states that Gemini can search information across Gmail, Docs, and cloud storage, but requires explicit user permission. The company also maintains that it does not use user data to train its models.
