Google Kills Tenor API: No More GIFs on Telegram and Discord

This means major communication hubs like Telegram, Discord, and X will lose their direct, seamless access to the massive GIF library. Third-party developers are being told to pack their bags and migrate to other services before the summer deadline, or prepare to watch their users stare at empty search boxes and sad error codes.
Meanwhile, the giant is keeping the good stuff for itself. Tenor content will remain perfectly active inside the cozy walls of the search giant's own products, including Gboard, Google Chat, and Google Messages. The official excuse for this digital enclosure is a desire to "focus on core products," which is corporate-speak for holding your favorite reaction memes hostage.
It is a classic platform-monopoly play disguised as corporate housekeeping. By cutting off the open web from the largest meme repository, a giant tech conglomerate successfully transforms a universal internet language into a proprietary feature, leaving millions of chat windows significantly more boring.
