Google finally launches Pixel Tag with UWB and Find Hub
Three years after Apple's AirTag, Google introduces its own item tracker featuring Bluetooth Channel Sounding and a massive device network.
Google has introduced the Pixel Tag, its first Bluetooth item tracker designed for keys, luggage, and wallets. The device integrates with the Find Hub network, supports ultra-wideband (UWB), and features Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding for precise distance measurement. It is scheduled to go on sale on November 11 for 29 dollars.
Operating similarly to Apple's AirTag, the tracker allows users to view locations on a map or trigger an audio alert when nearby. For precise directional searching, both the tracker and the user's smartphone must support UWB. Meanwhile, the Bluetooth Channel Sounding feature requires a device running Android 16 or newer with Bluetooth 6.0 hardware.
When outside direct Bluetooth range, location tracking relies on the Find Hub network, which encompasses over a billion Android devices worldwide to relay lost signal coordinates securely via end-to-end encryption. The system also includes anti-stalking protections, notifying users if an unknown tag is traveling with them, and a separation alert feature.
Measuring 28 × 46.1 × 5.4 mm and weighing 11.8 grams including the battery, the polycarbonate and metal casing features IP67 dust and water resistance. Powered by a replaceable CR2032 battery rated for over a year of use, the tracker is compatible with Android 9 and newer, and allows sharing access with up to ten people.
