Grand Theft Auto 3 lands in the browser via DosZone Team

Original version ·

Developer Nikita Aksenov and the DosZone Team have ported Grand Theft Auto III to the web, complete with touch controls and P2P asset sharing.

Developer and emulation enthusiast Nikita Aksyonov, known online as @Carter54, alongside the DosZone Team, has released a browser-based version of Grand Theft Auto III. The project follows the team's previous web port of Vice City.

According to the developers, the release features the original game alongside support for flexible screen resolutions, gamepads, touch controls, local and cloud saves, and both English and Russian language options. The system relies on web technologies built during earlier projects, including a webtorrent mechanism designed to share game assets between active users in real-time to handle large files without requiring external manual downloads.

While an automatic download fallback is available, the team encourages users to seed original files to help speed up loading times for others. Nikita Aksyonov previously released a browser-based version of Counter-Strike 1.6 featuring custom lobbies and map selections.
