Meta just dropped a Tamagotchi for adults called Muse Charm

Original version ·

Meta wants you to ditch your smartphone for a glorified key fob. The Muse Charm is essentially an AI-powered Tamagotchi with 5G that promises to manage your digital life, provided you're okay with talking to a keychain in public.

At the Connect 2026 conference, Meta revealed the Muse Charm, a standalone AI assistant housed in a device the size of an earbud case. The gadget features a 2-inch touchscreen displaying a customizable, animated avatar that acts as the face of the Muse AI agent. Users interact with the assistant by pressing a fingerprint scanner located on the screen's edge.

Equipped with a 5G modem, the device operates independently of any smartphone, meaning it doesn't need Wi-Fi or a companion phone nearby to function. While it includes a camera, the company has remained suspiciously quiet about its specific capabilities or privacy implications. The Muse agent handles voice-driven tasks, such as managing emails, controlling Mac applications, and executing background operations across integrated services like Walmart, Best Buy, PayPal, Expedia, Notion, GitHub, and Dropbox.

Currently, the hardware is just a prototype, with Meta planning a limited test run before the official launch. The company aims for a retail release during the holiday season in December 2026, though pricing remains as mysterious as the necessity of this device. A miniature, glowing digital pet capable of draining your bank account via PayPal while you walk down the street is certainly one way to solve the smartphone addiction crisis.
