Meta's Muse hits 5M downloads faster than ChatGPT, but is it just a massive flex?
Meta just shoved Muse down everyone's throats, and it worked. Five million downloads in under a month makes other AI agents look like they're crawling, but maybe having the world's biggest ad machine helps a little, right?
The Muse AI agent reached the 5 million download milestone in less than a month following its September 8th debut in the USA and Canada. This speed makes ChatGPT's 56-day, Grok's 103-day, and Claude's 492-day records look positively ancient.
While the app is marketed as a personal agent capable of handling emails, travel bookings, and shopping, it is difficult to ignore the marketing muscle behind the scenes. During the latter half of September, Meta dedicated roughly half of its internal ad inventory to promoting Muse directly to its captive social media audience.
Winning the download race is easy when you own the stadium, the referees, and the snack bar. It remains to be seen if users will actually keep using the app once the aggressive ad bombardment subsides and the novelty of booking a fake flight wears off.
