Chinese Navee Unveils $100k WaveFly 5X: A Flying Boat With No License Needed!

Original version ·

Rich tech bros have a new way to annoy lakeside vacationers without even needing a pilot's license. This futuristic vehicle merges aviation and boating into one ridiculously expensive package.

The public demonstration on Suzhou's Dongtai Lake showcased the WaveFly 5X, a dual-seat electric wing-in-ground-effect vehicle. Engineered from aviation-grade carbon fiber in a double tandem wing configuration, the craft hovers a mere 30 to 50 centimeters above the water's surface.

This altitude allows it to utilize the aerodynamic principle of ground effect, meaning it literally rides on a cushion of air trapped between its wings and the water. It tops out at a speed of 85 km/h with a maximum range of 80 kilometers on a single charge, carrying a total payload of up to 140 kilograms. That is just enough capacity for two very fit tech founders who skipped dessert.

Because it relies on aerodynamic lift rather than displacement, the vehicle requires no runway to take off or land. In the event of a total propulsion failure, the craft simply settles back onto the water like a slightly confused, oversized jet ski, eliminating the catastrophic drop of traditional aviation.

Crucially, the manufacturer claims the machine bypasses strict aviation rules entirely. In most jurisdictions, this craft is legally classified as a common watercraft, meaning buyers can skip years of flight school and jump straight into terrorizing local ducks.

Pre-orders are already open with options for custom colors, and serial production is officially scheduled to commence in the third quarter of 2026.

It seems the ultimate loophole has been found: flying without a license, as long as one stays low enough to scare the fishermen. Whether local maritime authorities will quietly accept a hundred-grand flying carbon-fiber wedge speeding past slow-moving yachts remains the ultimate multi-million-dollar question.
