OpenAI Buys Pierre So Code-Writing Bots Can Finally Stop Stealing Our Repos

Original version ·

Because letting generative models loose on standard developer tools wasn't chaotic enough, OpenAI decided to buy the entire infrastructure startup.

The acquisition targets Pierre Computer, a boutique developer of specialized infrastructure for storage and Git workflows. Their flagship service, Code Storage, was engineered specifically to let applications spin up Git repositories, stash code, and meticulously track history without breaking a sweat. Conveniently, this backend architecture is custom-tailored for autonomous agents, allowing multiple synthetic workers to swarm a single repository, tackle distinct tasks simultaneously, and hammer out continuous commits without stepping on each other's digital toes.

Several components of the startup's stack are already quietly humming inside Codex. The library known as Trees handles rapid navigation through tangled project files, while Diffs oversees code inspection and surgical edits directly during reviews. Meanwhile, Highlights manages real-time syntax illumination, ensuring that human developers can actually read the frantic machine-generated output before things implode.

Once the paperwork clears, OpenAI plans to deeply fuse Code Storage directly into the Codex pipeline, while promising that any existing open-source projects inherited from the startup will remain public. This follows recent infrastructure flexes where the lab showcased Pando, their custom-built server-side version control engine that swallows roughly a petabyte of data daily and slashes push latency by nearly five times while staying fully compatible with standard Git protocols.

Buying dedicated plumbing companies just to keep hyperactive AI code monkeys from crashing standard git trees feels like the most expensive possible way to avoid fixing a merge conflict. One moment humanity is treating version control as sacred text, and the next some Silicon Valley valuation machine casually absorbs the entire version control layer so algorithms can argue with each other in branches we will never read.

lmao they literally bought a whole company just so their bots stop deleting master branch
    +?

great, now even the robots have better version control than our senior dev
