Orca Hits 50k GitHub Stars Orchestrating Multiple Coding Agents

Original version ·

Built on Electron by Y Combinator alumni, Orca gives developers a free desktop cockpit to run terminal AI agents across isolated git worktrees.

A desktop orchestrator named Orca, first published in March 2026, crossed 50,000 stars on GitHub in less than six months, passing 53,000 before the end of August. Developed by Y Combinator alumni at Stably AI, the tool positions itself as an ADE—an Agent Development Environment—designed to tame the chaotic sprawl of automated command-line programming tools.

Rather than functioning as another language model, Orca acts as a supervisory layer. The open-source desktop app, packaged with Electron under the MIT license, coordinates autonomous coding tools inside independent Git worktrees. This architecture lets developers dispatch tasks locally or over SSH simultaneously without having agents collide over the same file state.

The interface centralizes several moving parts that CLI tools typically leave to the terminal buffer:

  • Rate limit dashboards tracking real-time usage across services like Claude Code, Codex, Gemini, OpenCode, Kimi Code, and MiniMax;
  • Workspace boards that organize running jobs onto status columns;
  • Inline review tooling featuring an internal editor, visual git-diff inspections, and a design inspection mode to anchor commentary directly to visual page components instead of pasting screenshots.

The desktop software is free to download on macOS, Windows, and Linux, and ships with 35 pre-configured agent profiles alongside support for arbitrary terminal executables. However, Orca does not subsidize token expenses: all actual coding runs depend on the user's personal provider accounts and active subscriptions.
