Paramount Greenlights Live-Action Cyberpunk 2077 Movie

Original version ·

After resurrecting itself from the ashes of technical hell, Night City is officially heading to Hollywood. This either ends as dystopian visual gold or another soul-crushing video game adaptation bound to flatline at the box office.

Hollywood studio Paramount Pictures has officially kicked off development on a full-length, live-action feature film set directly in the corporate sprawl of Night City. Stepping into the producer seat is Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the veteran who previously steered cinematic franchises like Transformers and supernatural thrillers like Constantine.

Specific details on whether the story follows the chrome-plated mercenary V or introduces a fresh set of tragic misfits remain locked away. However, game developer CD Projekt RED is officially onboard as creative consultants. The Polish studio already tasted adaptation glory with their acclaimed anime hit Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, proving that neon heartbreak sells remarkably well when executives leave their hands off the script.

The leap to cinema follows a colossal redemption arc, with Cyberpunk 2077 crossing over 40 million copies sold worldwide on the back of aggressive patches and the Phantom Liberty expansion. The project currently sits in its earliest conceptual phase, with no director, cast, or premiere window attached.

Video game adaptations have officially transformed from radioactive box-office poison into Hollywood's ultimate life raft. Whether an entertainment conglomerate can genuinely capture a story about hyper-capitalist dystopia without becoming an accidental parody of itself remains the ultimate question.
