The FSB officially put the founder of Telegram on an international wanted list, slapping Pavel Durov with criminal charges for alleged assistance to terrorist activities under Article 205.1 of the Russian penal code. If convicted, the tech mogul faces between eight years and life imprisonment in a Russian prison cell he will almost certainly never see.

Following the security service announcement, Rosfinmonitoring formally added Pavel Durov to its official register of extremists and terrorists. This designation automatically triggers an immediate freeze on all of his bank accounts and real estate holdings across Russia.

The classification severely restricts financial maneuvers, reducing allowed monthly withdrawals to a maximum of 10,000 rubles per family member for basic survival expenses, provided those funds originate within the country. Legal experts clarified that buying property, selling cars, or conducting standard wire transfers inside Russian jurisdiction is now completely illegal for him.

Despite the heavy-handed financial sanctions against its creator, Telegram itself remains legally accessible within the country. Russian legal analysts noted that paying for Telegram Premium subscriptions does not constitute financing terrorism, as long as the cash does not head directly into Pavel Durov's personal bank account.

The tech executive has lived in exile for the past twelve years, holding multiple foreign citizenships while operating his global platform outside Russian borders.
