Pentagon Now Uses ChatGPT and Grok to Play War Games on GenAI.mil
Because apparently regular paperwork wasn't soul-crushing enough, the Pentagon has officially onboarded OpenAI’s ChatGPT and xAI’s Grok to GenAI.mil. It is a bold new era of military efficiency where robots might accidentally automate the apocalypse.
The Department of Defense has integrated these LLMs into its internal GenAI.mil portal, which is already used by over 1.7 million personnel. The system is designed to handle non-classified administrative tasks like logistics, supply chain management, and policy drafting, effectively replacing the time soldiers previously spent staring blankly at spreadsheets.
While ChatGPT covers the standard heavy lifting, the military version of Grok is being billed as a tool for mission precision and market analysis. The Pentagon explicitly excluded Anthropic’s Claude after Dario Amodei voiced ethical concerns about military collaboration, leading to a rather petty legal spat where the current administration labeled the company a supply chain threat.
It is truly heartwarming to see the military-industrial complex finally embracing the same chatbot hallucination engines that help college students cheat on their history papers. Whether or not Grok starts predicting global conflicts with the same accuracy as a Magic 8-Ball remains to be seen, but at least the bureaucracy will be powered by silicon instead of human apathy.
