Roblox Bends The Knee To Russian Censors To Unblock Its Blocky Empire
Nothing says 'power of imagination' quite like corporate giants groveling before authoritarian bureaucrats. Our favorite virtual block world decided that Russian rubles are just too sweet to lose, even if it means letting local censors dictate the rules of play.
Back in December 2025, the Russian censorship machine known as Roskomnadzor pulled the plug on the platform, claiming the game was a lawless wasteland of illegal content. Instead of taking a principled stand, the corporate bosses at Roblox immediately knocked on Moscow's door to ask how they could play nice.
By June 2026, the gaming giant officially admitted that its child safety algorithms were utterly useless against Russian standards of purity. To fix this, they are rolling out special restricted modes called Roblox Kids and Roblox Select to make sure Russian children only see government-approved virtual pixels.
Having received these sweet corporate promises, the Russian Ministry of Digital Development and its censorship watchdog have politely asked law enforcement to lift the ban and let the kids back into the blocky matrix.
At the end of the day, virtual freedom is cool, but keeping the daily active user metrics looking pretty on quarterly investor calls is clearly cooler. It turns out that building a digital autocracy is incredibly easy when multinational gaming companies are more than happy to build the digital fences themselves.
