Russian Officials Form Super-Committee to Tame Wildberries and Ozon
Nothing says tech innovation quite like Russian bureaucrats creating a dedicated committee two years early just to micromanage online shopping carts and taxi apps.
The Russian government officially approved a decree establishing a permanent subcommission for the development of digital platforms, overseen by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko. The newly formed bureaucratic body will coordinate state policy and craft unified legislative packages before the federal law "On the Platform Economy" officially takes effect on October 1, 2026.
The Ministry of Economic Development has already compiled an initial blacklist-style registry containing 12 key services targeted for increased state oversight: Wildberries, Ozon, Yandex Market, Yandex Go, Yandex Eda, Yandex Travel, Avito, Delivery Club, Joom, Lamoda, Kuper, and Magnit Market. Officials have already signaled plans to expand this list to include gig-economy platforms and online job boards.
Watching state machinery steadily build digital toll booths around retail delivery and taxi apps looks less like regulatory modernization and more like the slow reboot of a planned economy with app icons.
