Telegram Finally Learns How to Play Hide-and-Seek With Your ISP
Telegram just dropped a clever update that makes its traffic look like boring, innocent website browsing. It is almost cute how hard they are trying to stay under the radar while everyone else is still playing cat-and-mouse with network filters.
The latest update to Telegram Desktop introduces WEB-proxy support, effectively burying its traffic inside standard HTTPS/WebSocket connections. Instead of relying on obvious dedicated proxy protocols, the app now spawns a mini-browser within its interface to camouflage data as routine web traffic.
The system works by bundling multiple connections into a single, innocent-looking stream. This flow hits an external relay server that strips away the web disguise and forwards the payload to an MTProxy node without needing to decrypt anything, keeping the privacy intact while keeping the ISP guessing.
To make the illusion perfect, the domain used for this process can simultaneously host a legitimate website. The hidden bridge only activates when it confirms the request originated from the messenger, leaving nothing but a trail of standard, uninteresting web requests for any snooping network gear to analyze.
This move turns the cat-and-mouse game into a high-stakes masquerade ball. While regulators scramble to figure out which traffic is a chat and which is a recipe blog, the underlying reality remains: the harder the walls are built, the more sophisticated the tunnels become.
