The latest firmware rollout for the UMO 5 electric vehicle—developed under the Yandex Auto ecosystem in collaboration with Moskvich—integrates an isolated app delivery engine called Updater alongside voice assistant controls for physical hardware. Rather than waiting weeks for full vehicle system validation, lightweight multimedia widgets and dashboard apps can now bypass the complete validation pipeline and deploy directly over the air.

Under the hood, the supposedly homegrown car is actually a licensed clone of the Chinese GAC Aion Y Plus built on the older AEP 2.0 platform. The new patch allows the Alisa virtual assistant to crack open the sunroof, regulate ambient cabin lights, and pop the trunk lock strictly while the car remains in park. Hardware integration relies on a quad-microphone array inside the cabin designed to isolate directional commands and route them through local and cloud processing pipelines. The vehicle comes equipped with an auxiliary winter heater and corrosion protection to handle harsh climates, delivering an estimated range of 350 kilometers in winter and 420 kilometers in summer, while completely skipping basic smartphone mirroring protocols like Apple CarPlay.
